Former Penske Racing crew chief Chris Carrier says he was "pretty surprised" when he was told Monday morning that he was being "replaced" as the leader for the No. 77 Dodge with driver Sam Hornish.

"I was just told Monday morning that they were going to replace my position with someone else," Carrier, who as of Wednesday had not heard from either Hornish or team owner Roger Penske. "They said I was still employed and right now I will do whatever they ask. But I really miss the people. We have a great sponsor and great people.
